The John Every king has to rise from somewhere, and Rolf Zero's debut shows quality and potential before even putting on the crown. A frolic in King Rolph's domain will take you through medieval charms and atmospheres permeated with the occasional rocking moment and a proggy execution. And what a very pleasant frolic it is! It's got a clean modern cut to it, fresh perspective and enchanting quirks in its musical personality. All in all, I'll happily hail to this king! Favorite track: The Wandering Walnut Bard.

about

Rolf Zero is a time capsule of the early days of the Australian instrumental progressive rock band of the same name. The album was written and composed in 2005, but was not released until 2022. The band recovered old files and recordings, some of which were of questionable quality, and mixed them together to create the album.

The band was unconcerned with low quality tracks, poor playing, or unsynchronized tracks. They wanted to release the album in its original form to preserve the naivety and excitement of their beginnings. The final product is a raw and honest album that captures the band's early spirit.

The album is a mix of medieval instrumental progressive rock with hints of jazz and hard rock/blues. The tracks are long and complex, with plenty of time for the band to explore their musical ideas. The album is a must-listen for fans of progressive rock who are looking for something a little different, naive, raw.
